Project Management Certification is imperative for business professionals who are in the project management field. Project Management Institute (PMI) offers a variety of globally recognized certifications for project practitioners who are seeking project management certification.
One of the most desired project management certification is the Project Management Professional (PMP). PMP certification classifies a project manager as knowledgeable and experienced in the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) methodologies. To become a PMP candidate, you must meet one of the following criteria prior to taking the PMP exam:
1. You must have a 4 year college degree AND a minimum of 3 years of project management experience. In addtion, you must have a minimum amount of project work hours. Currently, PMI requires 4,500 hours AND 35 hours of education related to project management.
2. If you do not have a 4 year college degree, but have a high school diploma, you can qualify for the exam if you have a minimum of 5 years of project management experience. You must also have a minimum amount of project work hours. Currently, PMI requires 7,500 hours AND 35 hours of education related to project management.
If you do not meet the requirements for the PMP project management certification, then you may want to begin your certification process with PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification. The CAPM certification is geared towards entry level professionals in the project management field. Individuals with little experience in leading projects and are looking for PMI recognition should consider becoming a candidate for the CAPM certification. To become a CAPM candidate, you must meet one of the following criteria prior to taking the CAPM exam:
1. A high school diploma with a minimum of 1,500 hours experience in project management.
2. If you do not have a high school diploma and/or 1,500 hours experience, you can qualify for the exam if you have 23 hours of project management education.
Project management certifications can enhance your project management career by gaining global recognition. If you are looking for ways to escalate your project management career, then you should consider meeting the requirements for the PMP certification or the CAPM certification.
